longest day ever

10 potty stops, 4 mental breakdowns from me, 2 times getting lost, a short lunch with a facebook friend, and 14 hours in the car... we are finally a family again.

And I've already lost him to a much younger lady.

Thursday Five

Where we list the 5 things that made us:

1. I am extremely joyous that we finally have a little extra money
2. I am jubilant that I am not gaining any weight
3. I am beyond exuberant that we will be a family again in about 36 hours!
4. I am  thankful that I have a father-in-law who can, and is willing, to help with car troubles!

5. I am merry because I get to see my husband tomorrow and Lucy gets to see her daddy!

When you move to your duty stations do you:

  • Get a license in that state?
  • Register your car in that state?
  • Change the insurance to that state?
  • Change addresses on your checks?
  • basically I want to know if you change your residency every time you move?
why or why not?

This is exactly how I feel right now. I've been on the phone all morning trying to arrange a DITY (do it yourself) and I keep getting new numbers, transferred, and messages. We decided to do a DITY because we're so close and I don't want to wait 2 - 4 weeks for our stuff to arrive, I want to be able to move in and get settled before Sailor Man reports for duty.

Wish me luck.. here I go again!

OPSEC! OPSEC! OPSEC!! *edited*

Does everyone know what this means?

This is taken from the lovely, Household 6 diva  and her wonderful blog:

OPSEC or Operations Security is being aware of what you are sharing because it could give away more information than you intended - this is usually related to military or combat operations.

PERSEC or Personal Security is also being aware of what you are sharing because it could give away more information than you intended - this is usually of a more personal nature.
  • Don't talk about the time frame.
  • Don't talk about the mission.
  • Don't talk about equipment.
  • Don't talk about numbers.
  • Don't talk about destinations.
  • Don't spread rumors.
  • Don't share pictures with unit insignia
Phone, email, chat rooms, message boards, blogs.
Always assume someone is listening.
I am aware that I haven't been through a deployment yet, however there are so many people out there; husbands, wives, daughters, sons, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, cousins, WHOEVER, that are serving our country to protect YOU. Why can't we extend the same courtesy to them? Why shouldn't we protect them?
The reason I'm bringing this up is because Mrs. Gambizzle brought this blog to my attention:
  • "Okay, okay. I -understand- its purpose. I even like its purpose, and respect its purpose. (HA)
  • "So there's a big middle finger to OPSEC, I suppose. They can't silence me and expect me to let everything build up inside me just because they are a bunch of paranoids have set guidelines that they think every spouse should adhere to."
They are going to kill someone and they think it's a joke! I can't even believe this post. I'm brand new to the military and I know you can't say crap like that.
Good grief.
  • Sometime this evening, Alpha Wife posted an apology for her above post

100th Post! and an award!

I've had this blog since early May and today I've reached my 100th post! I've had my family blog since April 2009 and I only have 75 posts. Ha. Anyways.. I'd like to say a big hello to my new followers. Please introduce yourself! I love to meet new people.

So When we go our verbal orders to Virginia I spent 2 1/2 days looking at housing, trying to find a prechool and gymnastics, how long of a drive it is to Grammy's, Uncle Jim, and my sister. I finally narrowed housing down to an area, had a couple of preschools that were actually schools and not daycare centers, and a couple of gymnastic places that were decently priced. Then came the phone call. Friday morning I was still looking at things when Sailor Man called with our paper orders and very casually said "forget Norfolk we're going to San Diego". My mouth hung open and I was in shock! I couldn't believe there was such a change! Geesh.

So I spent most of the day yesterday on the phone trying to get information about housing and such. I joined a couple "San Diego Navy Wives" groups on Facebook and then spent the majority of my morning today putting together a list of places (2-beds since that's what we qualify for!) with different amenities. Sailor Man thinks he will be able to fly to San Diego either next Friday or the following Tuesday, and Lucy and I will drive down to meet him, spend a couple of days there looking for housing.. drive home and get ready for the actual move. 90% of our stuff is in a storage unit so we'll pack up the remaining 10% and move it over there since it's just easier. We will have movers do the actual moving though. BUT we will drive our own car down there, which is a huge relief. I was really stressed about how we were going to get ourselves over to VA. It would cost roughly $1,000 just to fly + rental car + lodging until we have a house. At least this way we'll save on the car and flight. I'm hoping when we go down next week we will be able to sign a contract and have a house to go to. It would make life so much easier if we could do that. Seriously. It would.

Now on to the award!

Mrs. Gambizzle AND Brittany both gave me this award!

TO accept it I have to list seven things about myself, and pass it on to nine more lovely blogs.

  1. I am hardcore addicted to Facebook and Blogger
  2. I love being a housewife. I love to cook and clean for my husband.
  3. I got a circut recently and haven't used it because I'm moving soon and I don't want to open it just yet.. but it's killing me
  4. I'm getting back into scrapbooking
  5. I plan on buying Disneyland passports as soon as we move :)
  6. I don't drink or smoke
  7. I am in the middle of about 4 books right now.
And for the nine lovely blogs to pass this on to...

  1. Amanda @ It is what it is
  2. Elizabeth @ The Young Retiree
  3. Mrs. S @ The Adventures of Mr. Superman and Mrs. S
  4. Stacie@ Rambling Military Wife
  5. Jessica @ {Mis}Adventures of an Army Wife
  6. Melissa @ Mr, Mrs, & Little Miss
  7. Bethany @ A Southern Belle & Her Officer
  8. Carmen @ We see the same stars
  9. Katie @ Diary of a Disgruntled Marine Bride-to-be

Paper Orders

Remember Verbal Orders to Norfolk?

Scratch that

We got our "paper" orders today. We're NOT moving to Norfolk (I'm sad about it. I was so excited to meet all my FB and bloggy friends from there. Seriously.. though it wouldn't be a lie when I say I'm a little relived to be closer to home)

We're moving.. 526 miles southwest... to...

Yup! San Diego California

MilSpouse Friday Fill-In

I'm going to start doing this! Thanks to Wife of a Sailor, this is a great way to get to know other Military Spouses. All you do is fill out this questionnaire and then link it up on her blog! Don't forget to check her out and read the other entries!

1. Besides the horizontal mambo, what do you miss most when your spouse is deployed?
I haven't been through a deployment yet but while he's been gone at bootcamp and a-school I've missed him. I miss his smell, his laugh, his jokes.. and his back rubs!

2. What do you miss least?
farts probably

3. You only get three crayons to finish your picture… which three do you choose and why?
Probably red because it's generally the color I always choose. Orange because it's my hubs favorite color. And green because I love that color!

4. If you could have your own fragrance, what would it be called?
Laughter.. it would be a light floral scent. I feel everyone needs more laughter in their lives.

5. If the shoes make the man (or woman), what do your shoes say about you right now?
I have those "Shape-Ups" so I guess it would say.. "she's trying to lose weight" and it would be true :)

Verbal Orders

So let me tell you how silly I think this is. We are given "Verbal Orders" to a place and ship and then about 72ish hours later we receive our actual paper orders with dates and all the information we need. There is a chance that the paper orders are different than the verbal orders. WHY? I don't really know. Someone told me it was because sometimes the needs of bases change-- Ok, I understand that BUT why not just wait the additional 72 hours to give us a paper order instead? Why get you all excited about one place only to have a chance that you're actually going somewhere else.

Like I said, silly.

Anyway, we got our "verbal orders" today. Do you want to know? hmmm???

As of today (I'll let ya'll know for sure sure when we get our paper orders) We are moving...

2,770 miles away from where we live now.. to beautiful

Norfolk Virginia

day 24 (happy anniversary!)

Day Twenty Four
Whatever tickles your fancy

10 years ago I met the boy I would marry. He was not a member of the church at the time but his best friends were. There was a stake dance and when you're 14 and 15 there isn't anything more exciting than going to a church dance. I was there with my group of girlfriends when I spotted a group of boys. I knew one of them, Joey's BFF was a mutual friend. The moment I laid eyes on Joey I knew. I turned to my group of friends and informed them that he was the boy I was going to marry.

8 years ago we were at another church dance together. He had just broken up with his long-time girlfriend and I had just gotten back from a trip. Neither one of us wanted to be there. Luckily, we both were "forced" to be there. We started chatting and hung out most of the night. We exchanged numbers, but I was anxious. I didn't think he would call. Monday afternoon after school I called him. I asked him on our first date. We had Mexican Food and played Miniature Golf. On that golf course he bent over and kissed me by surprise.
5 1/2 years ago we were living in Vegas. We talked about getting married a lot. Most people didn't understand. Joey was only 18 and I was only 19. We were way to young for most people (including our parents). In December 2004 I got pretty sick. My mom asked me to come home so I could be examined by our family doctor. Turns out, I had Mono. So I spent most of Christmas in bed.Anyway. December 23, 2004 Joey came to my parents house to exchange gifts. I'll be honest, I was expecting to be proposed too. I drove his car a few weeks earlier and found some pictures of rings. After all presents were exchanged there was no proposal. I was sad but a little to tired to care. He then told me he had one more gift {this is it!} and pulled out his guitar. I was a little taken aback. He started singing me a song that he wrote for me. The last 4 lines of the song were
"I have a question now
What will the answer be?
Sarah, my love
Will you marry me?"
He then got on 1 knee and handed me a rose. Inside that rose was my ring. I was speechless, and honestly trying not to throw up all over him. I of course said yes, jumped on him and ran to tell my parents (my sister's were snickering in the hallway).

5 years ago today I married the man of my dreams. My Prince Charming. My everything. We've had our ups and our downs. I've been mean and called him names. I said things I regret. He never has. He's loved me through literally thick and thin. He's loved me in my darkest hour and my Mickey Mouse days. He's never hurt me, he's never been mean to me. He's always supported me and he's always loved me. He is an amazing father. He loves Lucy more than life itself. He will do anything for her. He loves the Gospel and the Church. He's strong. He's sexy. He's my everything.
I love you a million billion gillion my bodacious cinnamon roll

day 20

Day Twenty
A Hobby

I love to read. Although I haven't always been that way. My mom turned me onto "reading for pleasure" when I was 15. I read "Harry Potter" for the first time and fell in love. After that I was able to pick up books and read all the time. I've actually read 5 books in the last 4 or 5 days, I end up staying up until 1 or 2 am because I'm reading these books. Don't judge me... they're vampire books. Aside from the vampires and stuff it's actually a really good romance series!

day 19

Day Nineteen
A Talent
I can honestly say that aren't a whole lot of things that I'm really good at. However, I can say (with the right amount of modesty) that there are two (2!) things I'm very good at.

1. Cooking. I have been cooking since I was young. I have a very distinct memory of when I was maybe 3 or 4 cooking lego's for my dad to eat for dinner one night. I remember getting a "cook book for kids" one year for Christmas and wanting to make everything at once! My mom has taught me to do a lot of cooking, thankfully she is a wonderful cook and I've been able to learn a LOT from her. I can read a recipe and usually make it just right {sure, there have been a few times where it didn't turn out at all!}, and sometimes I can even tweak it if I don't have the right ingredient. I enjoy cooking. It takes my mind off things and it makes me feel good when people compliment me. I love to experiment and try new things. I'm always looking for new ways to cook something and new idea's for meals!

2. I'm an excellent listener and friend. Something I've prided myself very much on is how often people come to me to talk. When I was in high school there was a club called "Natural Helpers". It's a student voted club where each member get's elected by the student body (my high school was 2,200 kids) because the students feel they can talk to them rather than adults. I was 1 of 5 voted in my junior year of high school. Out of 2,200 kids 5 people got elected into the group. 5. I have to admit that I was shocked. I couldn't believe I was elected but I was. I've always been able to listen to people and help them get through whatever was bothering them, even if it just meant letting them get it out or even cry in front of someone. No judgments. I like being there for people, even if I don't know them very well, I like that people know they can call on me and I'll be right there.
